Try Vault Local free for 30 days

Vault Local stores all your passwords on your own computer, encrypted, with no accounts and no cloud. This trial gives you every feature for 30 days. No credit card needed.

When the 30 days end, the app keeps working for free and you lose nothing. Only the paid features turn off until you buy a plan.

It takes about 10 minutes. Follow the steps in order.

1Request your trial license

Enter your email and the promo code you were given. If you arrived through a link that already includes the code, it is filled in for you.

2Download the app

Click the button for your system — we detect yours and highlight it in blue. The file is saved in your Downloads folder.

If the buttons don't work, open https://github.com/od1n/vault-local/releases/latest and download the file ending in _x64-setup.exe (Windows), .dmg (macOS) or .AppImage (Linux).

3Install the app

Windows

  1. Open your Downloads folder and double-click the file that starts with Vault.Local and ends in _x64-setup.exe.
  2. Windows may show a blue window saying “Windows protected your PC”. This is normal: the app does not have a paid digital signature yet. Click “More info” and then “Run anyway”.
  3. If Windows asks “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”, click Yes.
  4. In the installer click Next, then Install and finally Finish. Vault Local opens by itself. Later you can find it in the Start menu by typing Vault Local.

macOS: open the .dmg file from Downloads and drag Vault Local into Applications. The first time, in Applications right-click Vault Local → Open, and click Open again in the warning (only needed once).

Linux: right-click the .AppImage → Properties → Permissions → check “Allow executing as program”, then double-click it. Or install the .deb by double-clicking it.

4Create your vault and master password

  1. The first time, Vault Local asks you to create a master password. It is the only password you need to remember: it protects all the others.
  2. Type it in Master password, repeat it in Confirm password and click Create Vault.

Very important: nobody can recover it if you forget it — not even us — because it never leaves your computer. Write it on paper and keep it somewhere safe. A long phrase you remember (for example, four random words) is better than something short and odd.

5Activate your trial license

  1. Open the email from step 1. Inside there is a dark box with a long text starting with VL2-: that is your key.
  2. Select all the text in the box (from VL2- to the end) and copy it with Ctrl+C (on Mac, ⌘+C). If it breaks into several lines, that's fine: the app joins it.
  3. In Vault Local, look at the top left, next to the sun or moon icon, and click Upgrade.
  4. A window opens (for now it is in Spanish). Click the box under Clave de licencia (license key), paste with Ctrl+V (on Mac, ⌘+V) and click Activar (activate).
  5. Done: at the top left you will see Pro (prueba) (“trial”). Click it any time to see how many days are left.

I didn't get the email

Wait 5 minutes and check Spam, Junk and Promotions. If you mistyped your email, go back to step 1 and request it again.

The app says “signature does not match” or “wrong format”

The key got cut when copying. Go back to the email, select from VL2- to the very last character of the box and paste again.

The app says the computer date looks wrong

Your computer's date or time is wrong. On Windows: right-click the clock (bottom right) → Adjust date and time → turn on “Set time automatically”. Then activate again.

Are my passwords uploaded to the internet?

No. Everything is stored encrypted on your computer. The license is checked offline; only step 1 uses the internet, to send you the email.

What happens after 30 days?

The app keeps working on the free plan with all your passwords. To keep every feature, buy a plan in the pricing section.

I installed it on another computer

You can use the same key from the email: repeat steps 2 to 5 on the other computer.
