Installation notes

Windows — SmartScreen

Windows may show a warning when opening the installer because the binary is not yet digitally signed. Click "More info" then "Run anyway". The source code is open and auditable.

macOS — Gatekeeper

The app is not signed with an Apple Developer certificate. The first time, macOS will say it "can't verify the developer." Drag Vault Local to Applications, then right-click and choose Open, and in the prompt click Open again. This is only needed once.

Linux — AppImage

Make it executable: chmod +x Vault*.AppImage && ./Vault*.AppImage. Or install the .deb with sudo dpkg -i Vault*.deb.

Yes, the free tier is fully functional with no limits on stored passwords. You can use Vault Local indefinitely without paying a cent. The Premium and Vault Pro plans add advanced features like encrypted attachments, password audit, and HIBP breach check, but the core password manager is completely free.
Vault Local uses military-grade encryption with multiple layers: Argon2id for key derivation, XChaCha20-Poly1305 for data encryption, and SQLCipher with AES-256 to protect the database. Your data never leaves your computer and the master password is never stored. Plus, the code is fully open source and auditable.
We cannot recover it. By design, your master password is never stored or transmitted to any server. This is what guarantees zero-knowledge security. We recommend keeping your master password in a secure physical location, such as a safe. If you lose it, there is no way to access your vault.
Yes, the app works 100% offline. Vault Local is designed as a local-first application. It does not need an internet connection to work. The only feature that requires connectivity is the HIBP (Have I Been Pwned) check, which verifies whether your passwords have appeared in known breaches, and it is completely optional.
After payment, you will receive an email with your license key within minutes. Simply enter the key in the Settings section of Vault Local and the Premium features will activate instantly. The key is personal and non-transferable.
Yes, from Chrome, Firefox, Bitwarden, 1Password, LastPass, and KeePass. The process is simple: export your passwords from your current manager in CSV format, and Vault Local will import them automatically, encrypting each entry with your new master password. After verifying the import, we recommend deleting the CSV file.
